Line of research 1

Solidification of Metals: the emphasis has been on the study of the scientific foundations of the formation of microstructures "out of balance" and the development of techniques for processing alloys with such microstructures. Relevant results have been obtained with the development of new compositions that form metastable microstructures with the optimization of mechanical properties (microstructures with amorphous phase, nanocrystalline and nano-quasi-crystalline) as well as the development of technology for the production of amorphous alloys in millimeter dimensions.

Line of research 2

Foundry of Metals: the emphasis is on innovative (non-conventional) processes such as Atomization, spray forming-CS and Chilling (Rapid Solidification). Unprecedented results at international level, such as the processing of the Fe-Si-Al alloy with excellent magnetic properties and its subsequent lamination and development of a new aluminum alloy reinforced with decagonal quasicrystalline phase, demonstrate the level of excellence in this area reached by the group.
